Who ARE we?

Our Mission

Charity 1.0 is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Tigard, Oregon. Our mission is to empower underserved communities—especially youth, veterans, and individuals with disabilities—through hands-on access to music and technology. Founded by U.S. Marine Corps veteran Jeff Higgason, Charity 1.0 believes in building safe, inclusive spaces where creativity leads to confidence, connection, and opportunity.

We design programs that blend music education, digital tools, and creative exploration in ways that are accessible, inspiring, and community-driven. Whether it’s learning to play an instrument, recording a first song, or exploring music production, our goal is to help participants of all backgrounds find their voice.

Our Focus in 2025–2026: MelodyMeet Youth Music Program

Our current flagship project, MelodyMeet, is a youth-focused music and technology initiative operating after school and on weekends. Targeting youth ages 10–18, this program combines group jams, private instruction, adaptive technology for accessibility, and music appreciation workshops.

Through MelodyMeet, we aim to:

  • Expand access to music education in a non-school, non-clinical setting.

  • Use music to build self-esteem, emotional wellness, and community.

  • Offer performance opportunities through local youth showcases and open mic nights.

  • Center inclusion by using adaptive tools for youth with disabilities.

We expect to engage over 100 students in the first year, many of whom have limited access to arts programs.

  • Purpose-Driven – Every activity must answer: “How does this help our community?”
